Calvary Lutheran Church Council Meeting October 9, 2007

 

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by President Terry Hepola at 7:37 p.m.with the following members present: Randy Jensen, Randy Graham, Laura Neitzke, Sheri Johnson, Cindy Olson, Lisa Peterson, and Cindy Hurt.  Pastor Holtan, Melody Scott, Lori Meader, and Harvey Kraabel were absent. Also Present were Shirley Pauna and Erin Anderson.

 

Devotions:  Terry Hepola led the Council in devotions and prayer.

   

Officer’s Reports

 

Secretary’s Report: Action:  Randy Jensen moved Cindy Olson seconded the following:  Be It Resolved that the Minutes of the October 9, 2007 regular meeting be approved as presented.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Randy Graham presented the treasurer’s report as follows:

Action:  Cindy Hurt moved Randy Jensen seconded the following:  Be I resolved that the Treasurer’s report be accepted as presented.  Motion passed  unanimously. 

 

Committee Reports

 

Education:  Bibles handed out to children at church Sunday.  “Christian Kids Corner” Wednesdays going well with two changes Will no longer provide transportation, bring your child to the church and will now end at 5:15p.m. instead of 6 p.m.

 

Evangelism:  Evangelism is working on new handbooks for sponsors of new members. 

Weekly prayer time starting Thursday, Oct. 11 at 5:15 p.m. in prayer chapel.  New member Sunday, October 21, 2007. 

 

Property:  One push mower and one riding lawn mower have been purchased.

Dirt work on east side of church is finished.  Note:  Perham Sand and Gravel donated the sand.  Thank you has been sent.

 

Social Ministry:  Short term missions sub committee report submitted by Carla Gauwitz and discussed.  $1,261.00 raised with Silent Auction, $2100.00 raised at breakfast served Oct. 7, 2007. The Money is to be used for building homes.

 

Parish Health Ministry:  They are working on kitchen sanitation, hand washing, etc.

Prayer shawls are available to all people, not just Calvary members.  Contact the Parish Health Ministry if you know of someone needing one.

 

Youth and Family: ‘Pumpkins for Purpose’ very successful.  Monies raised will be used for local missions, disaster relief, and support of youth program. 


President’s Report:  Terry Hepola reported that October is ‘Clergy Appreciation’ month. He will speak with Lori Meader of Personnel committee regarding honoring Pastor Phil. The Nominations Committee will start looking for people to fill Council vacancies for 2008.  Terry Hepola, Merrie Sue Holtan, and Wendy Dornbush will be starting a multimedia ministry, with the goal of telling little stories of things happening at Calvary through a video presentation.

 

Youth Director:   Senior High “Thirst” group study of “Glory Revealed” on Wednesdays are being well attended. Confirmation continues the study of the 10 commandments. Leadership team will be handing out 4:24 lanyards to Calvary youth and their friends.  These are a reminder to stop and pray at 4:24 each day.  The Leadership Team will be having a 4:24 setup table where youth will set up people’s phones with this reminder if so desired. ‘One Call Now’ phone communication system has been in trial use for 3 weeks and is generating much buzz and positive response. Junior High Gathering November 17-18.

 

Discussion Items

 

President Terry Hepola is in the process of appointing a Volunteer Coordination Task force. The time frame for task force to gather information will be approximately four to six weeks.

 

Churches Planting Churches report: John Krueger and Erin Anderson attended the conference September 20, 2007 in Moorhead in response to the concept of extending a worship services to the Dent and/or Otter Tail areas. They connected with Zion Lutheran church from the Franklin lake area who is  looking at a similar project.

 

Action Items

 

Fundraising/Special Offering PolicyAction:  Randy Jensen moved Laura Neitzke seconded the following:  Be it resolved that the Fundraising/Special Offering Policy be approved as written.  Motion passed unanimously.
